Can you imagine eight days and seven nights on board a train and still want more?
From León to Santiago de Compostela or from San Sebastián to Santiago de Compostela, all the magic of northern Spain is waiting for you, from the plains of Castilla y León to the seas of Cantabria.
All the beauty of the 'Green Spain', with its landscapes and monuments and the delights of its unrivalled gastronomy, awaits the passengers on this incredible hotel on wheels.
El Transcantábrico has revived the tradition of 'railway cruises' and made travelling the greatest pleasure ever.
The journey
Get to know the north of the country, the area by the Bay of Biscay that lies between steep mountains and green meadows, by beaches and cliffs, and discover the towns and villages of northern Spain. These are places full of enchantment and history that over the centuries have become living works of art, places like Santiago de Compostela, Vivero, Oviedo, Ribadesella, Llanes, Santillana del Mar, Santander, Bilbao, Carrión de los Condes and León. On board the train you will have the choice of double or single suites, where you will have all the privacy needed on any pleasure trip.
Compartiments / Suites
Every suite on El Transcantábrico offers passengers a compartment that is specially designed for rest and privacy. You can sleep in comfort as the train will be parked at a station each night. This means that your sleep will not be disturbed by moving and jolting and also gives those who enjoy nightlife an opportunity to go out and savour the atmosphere of each town.
Each compartment is supplied with a complete selection of travel accessories. The electrical power is 220 volts.
Every suite-compartment has a double bed and some have the option of an independent upper bunk. All are equipped with a luggage rack, minibar, safe deposit box, wardrobe, writing desk and a telephone with an outside line. The private bathroom has a hydro sauna, turbo massage and steam bath, and a hairdryer. The air-conditioning and heating, piped music and lights are all controlled individually.
There is a large picture window in both the suite and the bathroom so that you can enjoy the passing scenery. All the coaches are interconnected so that passengers can move freely along the whole length of the train.
Besides, the train owns a high-luxe Suite with a 150x200 cm bed, computer with logging in to Internet, videogames, sofa, two television sets, desk, minibar, safe box, etc., all these together with a huge bathroom with sauna, jacuzzi, and Turkish bath.

The lounge cars
The four lounge carriages of El Transcantábrico are the most unusual and beautiful places on the train. They are veritable rail treasures that are much admired owing to their exquisite design, their finish and the interior decorations. These are the common areas of the train, where over the more than twenty years of recent history and the century since they were built, many a lasting friendship has begun, inspired and encouraged by the congenial atmosphere.
One of the lounge carriages has a bar and dance floor. This is the "pub carriage", decorated and lit like a small night-club, where lively entertainment is provided every night until the early hours of the morning. Another lounge carriage also has a bar where you can sit back and have a quiet drink. The other two lounges are for other types of entertainment, such as reading, enjoying a board game with your fellow passengers, talking or watching the passing scenery through the big picture windows. And wherever you are, you will always be served by our attentive waiters.
Passengers are offered daily newspapers, magazines, a thoughtful collection of books from the library, television and videos; all that you need to make your journey a pleasure.
